There is a spark in all of us that knows. It is our connection to the source of our deepest joy. The spark holds the space for our mortal life so we can experience the physical body and the thinking mind. It is like an infinitely loving parent that compassionately watches, listens and supports us without imposing anything.
As individuals we seem to exist as partial “selves” with moments of awareness and openness to the spark. We learn to inhabit the body-mind and grow from conception, to infant, to child, to adult. We reproduce and our offspring do the same.
Our parents do their best to raise us with the little they know. Some are aware of the spark and are connected to the source of joy and this blesses them and everyone they come in contact with.
We can develop our awareness of the spark within and learn to recognize it as our true selves. We can learn to listen with compassion to our fears, to our deep yearning for connection, without imposing any kind of fix. As we become this, we learn to live in this mortal life with compassion and we recognize each other as kindred; we know that we are essentially the same.
